Many companies open blogs because they are aware of the importance they have to dialogue with their public and attract new visits to their online store. However, a series of common mistakes are usually made that damage the corporate image of the company, but also make it difficult to manage and manage the blog. The main mistake comes from relying on free blogging services -such as Blogger.com or WordPress.com-, thinking that they represent savings when what they produce is a lot of problems.
In this article, I would like to highlight some of these errors when creating our blog. So, what are the typical mistakes when creating a blog for the first time? There are many blunders that can be made at first. However, I'm only going to focus on purely technical or business ones. 1. Open a free blog at WordPress.com or Blogger.com. Unfortunately, many companies use these free tools to open their blog. But the disadvantages are innumerable: you lose in corporate image, SEO, utilities such as WordPress.org plugins to optimize your page, etc.
2. Do not integrate it into your website. If you want, you can buy a separate domain and try to position it to create backlinks. However, you also have the option of integrating it into the same domain of your web page to increase the volume of indexed pages. Something some companies do is to use subdomains, that is, a blog address: Companyname.com or something. But the most important thing is that you can go from one page to the other with ease and there is a good system of internal links.
3. Do not optimize the SEO of the blog. Whether you use WordPress, Joomla, or Blogger, you will have to pay attention to the internal SEO of your page. In Blogger, for example, the titles are not optimized (the blog title appears first and then the entry's title by default). At WordPress.com, you cannot install the appropriate SEO plugins to improve the meta-description if you are with the free version.
4. Use a free design by default. This is something that is obvious, but many companies are not very clear. As we remembered the other day in my article on custom web designs, many default templates are highly viewed and give a poor image of a business. You have to try to be as original as possible by buying your own template or hiring a web designer.
5. Do not integrate social networks. Social media has immense power to generate new readers. Not implementing an option that allows articles to be shared on social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc.) is a great disadvantage in the medium-long term.
Apparently, it seems very common for SMEs to commission a web development company to design and build us a professional website or an online store. But creating a blog properly is also a very serious matter. Although it is not too difficult, if we do not know or do not have time to do it, it is best to ask that they also integrate a blog in our online store.
