Loneliness is a universal experience that has an evolutionary basis and reminds us of the pain and warns us of the threat of becoming isolated.
Loneliness is a global problem, just like COVID 19. Although Loneliness is a non-infectious condition, it is caused not by being alone, but by being without some needed relationship or set of contacts. The current crisis of coronavirus and lockdown measures that many countries have put in their counties will have an impact on our psychological well-being. The implementation of social distancing is critical to flatten the curve of COVID 19 and prevents its progression. However, COVID 19 pandemic can also cause an economic recession and social recession.
Whether you are quarantined due to suspected exposure, staying home because you are in a high-risk category, or at home to help prevent the spread of infection, not at all prepared for the sensation of isolation, which is going to follow shortly after that. The lockdown because of the COVID 19 pandemic will cause a multitude of effects, from inciting fear and phobia in society. With a given scenario, there is a considerable increase in Loneliness. Loneliness can be seen in every age group due to the lack of conformity and belongingness. Belongingness is a social need and a necessary need.
Every individual requires it. Loneliness is a collective experience with 80 percent of the population below 18 years of age and 40 percent of the people above 65 years of age report loneliness at least sometimes in their life. Loneliness can lead to various psychological and physical disorders, if not treated early. Therefore it is essential to intervene at the right time to prevent Loneliness so that the physical and mental health of patients is maintained.
The pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID)19- may be causing varied responses among people depending upon age and pre-morbid conditions. Different people react differently to stress full events. Stress and anxiety regarding a disease can be upsetting and generate strong emotions in adults and children. People who respond more strongly to crises include extremes of age patients (very young, teen, and elderly and patients with chronic medical conditions. Besides, a patient who is already suffering from mental health issues and substance abuse, and health care providers also respond strongly to stress.
Being stressed about the news is comprehensible, but for many people, it can make existing mental health problems worse. Loneliness can be felt even around people, and it is not related to being alone. Left untended, Loneliness has serious consequences psychological and physical well-being of people. Therefore it is essential to intervene at the right time to prevent. However, it is vital to understand that it is an emotional state of mind, it is temporary, and one can easily combat Loneliness.
