When selling online, it is essential to be clear about what kind of consumers our online virtual store will target, some consumers, the virtual ones, whose behavior has little or nothing to do with those that exist in the physical world.
In this sense, possibly the biggest difference between traditional and virtual commerce is the fact that in the latter, poor service is paid very dearly, especially because of the speed with which information spreads over the Internet - especially if this information is negative.
For all these reasons, there are two basic strategies when targeting consumers online: either establish in advance what product we will trade in our online virtual store, or select the market segment we will target first.
If we choose the first strategy, we will look for what type of consumers we are addressing based on the product or service we want to sell online.
On the contrary, if what we are targeting is a market segment, we will have to find which products or services are the most suitable to satisfy these consumers.
Without a doubt, electronic commerce has made the second approach have eaten up a lot of ground in the first one in recent times. In fact, in the very near future, it will be the tastes of consumers that define the products that are sold on the Internet.
Therefore, we must take all these aspects into account when designing an effective marketing strategy, a strategy that, as already mentioned, should place potential consumers at the forefront of our business.
