The Hindi-language segment of the Indian film making industry, popularly known as Bollywood that started in Bombay (presently Mumbai) during the 1930s and formed into a gigantic film empire. Eventually, it rose to prominence and presented us with a huge array of films across various genres and also a number of noteworthy directors and film stars.

After early investigations in the genre of silent films, in 1934 Bombay Talkies, propelled by Himansu Rai, initiated the development of Indian film. Throughout the years, a few exemplary types rose out of Bollywood like the chronicled epic, remarkably Mughal-e-Azam (1960), the western, for example, Sholay (1975), the concubine film and Pakeezah (1972), featuring an amazing cinematography and sensual dance choreography.

Stars, instead of plots, were frequently the main impetus behind the movies. Starting in 1936, when Ashok Kumar and Devika Rani rose as the primary significant star pair, the Indian audience built up a voracious hunger for news about their screen legends. This intrigue proceeded with male actors, for example, Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, and Dev Anand during the 1950s and 60s, Rajesh Khanna during 1970, Amitabh Bachchan during 1980, and Shah Rukh Khan during 1990. Popular female actresses like Madhubala dominated the industry during 1950, 1960 was dominated by Mumtaz, Zeenat Aman in 1970, 1980 was of Hema Malini. During the 90s actresses like Madhuri Dixit and Kajol rose to fame.

At the turn of the 21st century, the Indian film industry - of which Bollywood remained the biggest part - was delivering upwards of 1,000 component films yearly in the entirety of India's significant dialects and in an assortment of urban communities, and worldwide crowds started to create among South Asians in the United Kingdom and in the United States. Standard highlights of Bollywood films kept on being conventional storylines, expertly arranged action scenes, marvelous song and dance schedules, sensational drama, and flamboyant heroes.

Bollywood, till now is growing in magnitude everyday. In the process, it is opening an window of opportunity to a large number of professionals. Everyday, lot of actors are getting an opportunity to be a part of the film industry. Several film stars are getting chances in Hollywood too due to their reputation in Bollywood. Other than actors and directors bollywood is giving job opportunities to people from various fields like fashion, designing, authors and singers and several others to choose from. It can be said with confidence that Bollywood will continue to surprise us in the future by presenting us with nice films, iconic actors, memorable music and innumerable opportunities.
