Location- Goechala is a high mountain in Sikkim which attracts trekkers from all over the world. It has an altitude of 16,207 feet. This pass leads one to the great Kanchenjunga National Park. The trek also lets one witness some of the greatest Himalayan Mountains. Why one should undertake Goechala trek? Situated in the lap of the Himalayan mountains, Goechala trek has a lot of things to offer. Some of the very obvious reasons to undertake this trek are discussed below.
View of Kanchenjunga- One of the main reasons to undertake this trek is the mesmerizing view of the summit of Kanchenjunga. Goechala trek offers the trekkers a very close view of Kanchenjunga, unlike other treks. The sunrise view is something out of the world. It can never be explained in words. As the Reddish sun peaks from the gaps of Kanchenjunga, the sky changes colour and the snow on the mountain peak glitters. This heavenly sight can be seen from Dzongri and fisrst ViewPoint of this trek. It is the most rewarding sight of the whole trek. Other mountains- The trek is not only about Kanchenjunga mountain, but other great mountain summits can also be seen on this trek like Talung, Kabru N, Simvo, Jupono, etc. There are very few treks that offer so many amazing views like Goechala trek.
The dense forest of Rhododendrons- The trail of Goechala trek crosses a dense rhododendron forest. In the months of May and June, the forest takes its true colours. It is filled with red and pink flowers. Walking through the forest is an enchanting experience. Samiti Lake- It is another attraction of this trek. The clear still water of the lake and the reflection of Pandim mountain on the water is a visual treat.
When should one undertake this trek? For the best trekking experience, one should undertake this trek from October to November. It is suggested as the best season for Goechala trek. During these months, the sky remains very clear so trekkers enjoy the sunrise and sunset view thoroughly. During winter, people can also go on this trek to enjoy the view of snow-clad mountains.
Necessary permissions that are to be obtained- Two major things needed to be done before going to this trek. Trekkers need to register at the police station of Nepal with identity proof. Trek permission should be taken and fees should be paid at the forest check post at Yuksom before starting the trek. Guide charge, camera charge, trek package, all should be cleared before the trek starts to avoid further confusion.
Trek details that one needs to know- It is a 10 days trek where trekkers cross a path of 90 kilometers. Goechala trek is considered as a difficult trek due to the high altitudes of Goechala pass. It starts from Yuksom. New Jalpaiguri is the closest railway station to Yuksom. One can also come via Bagdogra Airport which is 155 kilometers away from the base camp. From Yuksom the trek takes one to the land of mountains, green pastures, wildflowers, and clear streams.
On the way, trekkers witness many breathtaking sights of mountain peaks touching the sky. With all the wonders and natural splendor, Goechala trek Himalaya can be called one of the most amazing treks.
