Mother India The film was released in 1957 and starred Sunil Dutt, Nargis and Rajendra Kumar. The film is best known for its patriotic and cultural significance. The story revolved around a poverty-stricken woman and her struggle to raise her two sons, in the absence of her husband. It is her story about the struggle to keep away from the cunning money-lender. The movie was also nominated for the Academy Awards. It is one of the most classic Bollywood movies which was ever made.


Mughal-E-Azam Starring Prithviraj Kapoor, Madhubala, and Dilip Kumar, Mughal-E-Azam is certainly one of the most expensive films made in India. This love saga continues to awe audiences even today. The film was released on 5th August, 1960. It broke several box office records at that time. It soon became the highest grossing film of all time. It was held for more than 15 years and patrons queued up for several hours to get the tickets. The colour version of the movie was released in 2004. It became a huge commercial success as well. The film won several awards which include the National Film Award.

Sahib Biwi Aur Gulam This popular movie is based on a well-known movie. It has been widely appreciated by critics and audiences all around the globe. The movie also made to the All-Time Best 100 Movies List .

Guide One of the most popular Bollywood Hits, the TIME magazine included the movie in the list of Best Bollywood Classics . Staring Dev Anand and the beautiful Wahida Rehman, the movie proved to be a turning point in Anand s career. Several years later in 2007, the film was made in English version which was then premiered in the Cannes Film Festival.

Bobby The teenage love story between Dimple Kapadia and Rishi Kapoor, the film garnered huge appreciation all over. Both the leading characters debuted through this movie. The movie became a trend-setter and was widely imitated all over. It brought a completely new way of representing romance with a backdrop of rich versus poor clash. In the next few decades, several films were inspired by the plot of Bobby.

The list cannot end without the mention of Sholay. The film was released in 1975 and is about the story of two criminals Jai and Veeru. The film ranked 1st in 2002 poll by British Film Institute. In India, it went ahead to earn a standing record of 60 golden jubilees. It was the 1st Indian film to celebrate silver jubilee in more than 100 theatres. This was one Indian film which held the record of longest theatrical run till 1995.
