Being the fourth edition of Housefull franchise, the audience went to the halls for comedy and laughter. But where is the comedy and humour gone? Is it due to the reverse drive which the movie takes and the audience gets a ride to the fifteenth century? Starring Akshay Kumar, Boman Irani and Kriti Sanon, the film did not live up to the expectations of the audiences.
The movie takes us back to the fifteenth century. This is the time when six lovers had parted their ways due to prevailing revenge and conspiracy. In the present times, these boys are about to marry but their pairings are all wrong. They are all set to marry their sisters in laws. Destiny plays the trick again and the couples end up in the same place where it all started. The place is Sitamgarh. You need to watch the movie to know what happens next. Will they remember everything? Will they still be stuck with their wrong lovers.
For reasons unknown, the film has an increasingly loud background score which tends to be uncomfortable several times. The actresses do not have much to do. Kriti Sanon, has a comparatively lengthy role and she does manage to pull it off well. Unfortunately, Pooja Hegde and Kriti Kharbanda do not have any scope to perform due to the little screen time they get. However, quite funnily three of them are dressed in same colors. It might be a deliberate attempt to confuse the audience.
The screenplay of the movie is quite confusing and the audience is often left wondering about what is happening. The sets are quite extravagant and are a delight to watch. Critics have mentioned that the sets are highly influenced by Game of thrones. The costumes are flamboyant. Bala gets a new style and looks quite like a Maratha King of that time. Housefull 4 comes with several songs which you can groove through. Unfortunately, none of these songs are memorable and the songs are drowned usually the loud noises of the firecrackers.
The film comes with its own share of controversies. Sajid Khan who was the director was removed after Me Too allegations. Farad Samji directed the film later on and completed. The film could not do well in the box office, it could have done much better.
