Sholay was the biggest blockbuster of Bollywood and one of the most grossing films of the Indian Film industry. Starring Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Amjad Khan, and Hema Malini in the lead roles. People associated with the film had no idea that the film will set a benchmark in Indian cinema history. From action sequences to songs to dialogues, everything about this film is talked about even today. The film still continues to dazzle the present generation of movie lovers.

Here are some interesting facts about the Blockbuster Sholay, which many might not know about Many filmmakers were offered the idea, but they did not find it interesting enough and was not accepted. Finally, it was accepted Ramesh Sippy and the rest is history. Its screenplay was originally just a 4-line snippet which was created by the talented duo Salim-Javed.


The film took a really long time to make. It took 2.5 years and was released on 15th August, 1975. The film had exceeded its budget at that time, but it paid off when the film ran for more than 25 weeks in more than 100 cinemas across India. It went on to set a new record in Mumbai Minerva Theater where it ran for more than 5 years, completely uninterrupted.

Several characters of the film were based on real people they were the real friends of Salim-Javed. Jagdeep s popular character of Soorma Bhopali was based on real life Soorma who was known to Jagdeep and was a forest officer.

The role of Gabbar, which made the Late Amjad Khan famous was first offered to another actor. Danny Denzongpa was offered this role but he refused the offer. This was when the role was offered to Amjad Khan who gave one of the best performances of his career. The role won him many awards made his foothold strong in the film industry.

There were many songs in the film but one song became to be known as the friendship song and is still used in many movies. The song Yeh dosti hum nahi todenge was filmed on Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan. Though the song appears quite easy and natural, but it took 21 days to shoot this song. It was a long-time but the director ensured that it was as he expected.

Finally, it is also known that there was a real-life dacoit named Gabbar Singh. As per reports this dacoit was ruthless and would cut off the ears and noses of policemen.
